As part of the PM/CM team, MIRABAL served as a subconsultant on the ESCR—SANDRESM2 (PA2) project, a major climate adaptation initiative led by DDC and undertaken in partnership to address the long-term impacts of Superstorm Sandy.

PA2 spans from the Con Edison Building at East 15th Street to Asser Levy Playground at East 25th Street, integrating critical flood protection measures, including over 3,100 linear feet of floodwalls and 12 movable floodgates, safeguarding over 110,000 New Yorkers

climate-adaptive infrastructure

The project’s infrastructure was designed to meet 2050s sea level rise and storm surge projections, incorporating Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) systems and sustainable drainage strategies.

utility resilience upgrades

Utility upgrades were implemented throughout the corridor to strengthen system resilience and ensure long-term service continuity in flood-prone zones.

public realm improvements

Public space enhancements were central to the project, including reconstructed playgrounds, flood-protected ballfields, and improved amenities at Asser Levy Playground, Murphy Brothers Playground, and Stuyvesant Cove Park

waterfront park enhancements

Stuyvesant Cove Park now features salt-tolerant plantings, expanded esplanades, modern lighting, and seating to support ecological diversity and recreational use.
