the NYC DOT’s Pedestrian Ramp Program ensures that pedestrian ramps throughout the City meet current ADA standards as promulgated by the 2010 American’s with Disabilities Act.

ADA compliance
initiative

NYC DDC implements infrastructure projects that construct ADA-compliant pedestrian ramps. These ramps facilitate access to pedestrians with mobility and vision disabilities while benefiting all pedestrians, including those using strollers or shopping carts.

design standards and specifications

The pedestrian ramps comply with all ADA minimum requirements. These requirements are comprehensive and specific and consider: elimination of ponding conditions; limitations of the running and cross slopes, grade differences, gutter flow, minimum clear widths, installation of detectable warning surfaces (DWS), reveal, landing lengths, side flares.

mirabal staff are members of the engineering team providing management, inspection, coordination, and administration of the project.

Our team has implemented a wide-ranging Maintenance and Protection of Traffic (MPT) of best practices designs for ADA compliance through construction work zones.

Our staff’s extensive experience has equipped our engineers to implement simple solutions, including the consideration of alternative design options endorsed by NYCDOT, at instances where ADA compliancy can be achieved using additional typical details as guidance. The decision to apply these alternative solutions has required due diligence and sound engineering judgment.
